Short Message Service (SMS)
Short Message Service (SMS) is a service that permits sending short messages, better known as text-messages, on mobile devices. SMS messaging can be used as a tool for 2-way communication, ordering ringtones or wallpapers, and even entering contests. Recently, SMS messaging has become a popular way to vote or interact with reality TV shows, radio shows, and billboards. SMS is particularly popular in Europe, Asia, and Australia, but is rapidly gaining popularity in the US, especially with the gen y market.
