CAN-SPAM

In 2003, President Bush signed the CAN-SPAM Act which defines the regulations for email marketing as well as the qualifications of spam mail and the legal repercussions of sending spam mail, regulated by the Federal Trade Commission. CAN-SPAM stands for "Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography And Marketing". Under the law, email is considered spam if it contains a deceptive subject line, is not labeled as adult content if necessary, or if it does not contain an opt-out option. As is the case with any new legislation, the CAN-SPAM Act is met with critics who believe the new law is weak and will not yield real results. A marketing/advertising firm can help create an email campaign that complies with the regulations set by the CAN-SPAM Act.
